Date of Hike: 8/28/2010
Trail Conditions: Some mud in the flats and mostly down low, terrible erosion in the last mile, but that's been that way for awhile. Otherwise very passable, new bog bridges throughout, and the the Maine Conservation Corps was there putting in more.
We did not hike the loop as the Coe slide was very wet. We met a group of 4 fast moving young women who were doing the loop counter-clockwise, and they said it was wet and advised us not to go down it.
Special Equipment Required: None.
Comments: Interesting day weather-wise. Low 60s, fairly dry air, but the top was cooler, windy and in and out of the clouds, which made for dramatic viewing. View of Davis Pond was wonderful, Baxter Peak was just barely in the clouds the whole time, and after about 45 minutes at the summit, the clouds started coming in thicker. I think we hit it at just the right time. Overall visibility was somewhat diminished due to the effects of a Quebec forest fire.
