A perfect day. Breezy and a little cold to start out, but the climb steeply uphill right from the parking area provided a good but short warm up. Sun got brighter and brighter, and at about 1000' above the TH it was time to put on the snowshoes. The woods were spectacularly open on ND's northern ridge. And it felt great to have the warm sun. A quick break for photos and signing the canister book on ND's summit, then down to the col for lunch. Much steep up to Sherrill, but by now the warm sun and breezeless conditions had me hiking in a thin t-shirt with a long sleeved Capilene shirt over it.
More 'canister time' on Sherrill's summit where 3 hiker and 2 dog hikers picked up their second winter peak of the day before hiking down Sherrill's north ridge. Very nice way down, but quite a few beech whips and prickerless prickers in places. ND's ridge was nicer although Sherrill's ridge was an excellent decent route.
Very nice group of friends on the hike, some of whom had not met each other before.
Look at the last photo - fitting for a 'bluebird' day.
