trails: hancock notch trail, cedar brook trail, hancock loop trail

conditions: hancock notch trail is decent shape and relatively dry minus the usual wet and muddy places. a student conservation association crew is working on major repair and reconstruction on the trail in the badly eroded section shortly before the trail turns hard right up and off of the rail grade (about .25 before cedar brook junction) with rock hardening, rock drainage, turnpiking and rock steps all slated to go in. cedar brook trail wet and muddy with significant standing water in spots. the loop trail was wet, but little mud until the usual wallows on the ridge. water crossings were all fine. bugs not an issue today.

equipment: nothing in particular.

comments: morning rain turned me off of my plans for a bushwack hike so i decided to head up one of my favorite peaks and get in a partial trail patrol at the same time. was thrilled to see the crew working on that section of hancock notch trail as well as some forest service volunteers fixing the rock steps heading down to the kanc from the parking lot. temps started out in the 50s early, but the woods quickly turned into a bit of a sauna. good breeze on the ridge. great to be out.
