trails: pinebend brook trail, mt. tripyramid trail
conditions: a fair amount of roadside parking on both sides of the road where the banks have been pushed back. the trail had a nice packed snowshoe track the whole way. some of the nicest conditions i have seen on this trail in winter with great traction even on the steeper pitches. the packed route occasionally meanders off the trail on the ridge. occasional drifting with the winds. most of the water crossings on the lower trail are open, but were not a problem.
equipment: snowshoes. crampons always a good idea to have along on this route in case conditions change.
comments: nice new years day hike. the winds were harsh and cold in places, but it was quite pleasant once up on the ridge. some nice views along the way. conditions were great and especially fast on the descent. thanks to everyone for having me along.
