Date of Hike: 3/10/12
"ski trail" from Little River Rd to summer trailhead on Haystack Rd. North Twin Trail, bypassing the first 2 crossings of the Little River.
Trail Conditions: Well packed snow the entire way. Skipped the 1st 2 official river crossing on the unofficial bypass, well-broken. 3rd crossing frozen upstream, but a couple of boot-sized holes where people had punched through - use care. Warm weather later this week may take out this crossing. Several of the tributaries that were ice-bridged on the way up were broken on the way down. Lower part of the trail was icy & crunchy on the way out.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes all the way up. Switched to light traction after the river crossing on the way down.
Comments: Awesome day for a hike. Clear blues skies and mid-20s most of the day. Saw only 3 other people on the trail - they walked in from Haystack Road on Rt 3.
