trails: north twin trail, north twin spur, twinway, frost trail, garfield ridge trail, gale river trail
conditions: haystack and gale river roads free of snow/ice. wet trail and minor mud to start down low with snow on the trail beyond upper crossing of little river. increased and became continous coverage of packed wet snow and slushy ice somewhere in the upper 3ks. once on the ridge the sloppy snow continued with sections of deep slush, mud and standing water to south twin. snow consistency was very slushy and wet. more of the same snow descending to the hut with soft ice on some of the steep ledges. lots of standing water on frost trail with wet snow to galehead. coverage of snow became more sporadic on the descent then just wet and muddy, particularly in the relocation, to the trailhead. crossings were all ok. had to step briefly in water at the little river crossing.
equipment: wore microspikes from high on north twin trail until snow ended on gale river trail and found them helpful for a little extra grip in the sloppy snow.
comments: a decidedly spring like day in the mountains. great views and warm temps. windy up high. thanks to cynthia for a nice hike.
