Date of Hike: Sunday 12/6/09
Trail Conditions: light snow down low, deeper higher up. Deep mud on the snowmobile trail from Little River Road to Haystack Road. Haystack Road is gated. Numerous blowdowns and bend-downs to go over, under, and around. Little River stream crossings are difficult. We did all three on ascent, and miraculously kept our feet dry. On descent we "bushwhacked" along the east bank (a Bushwhack In Name Only, it's becoming very trail-like) to avoid the last two (on descent) crossings.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes, poles for the stream crossings.
Comments: very limited views today. We'd thought of doing S. Twin as well, but after plugging the available remaining daylight and energy, the limited views, and the square root of the number of beers in the car into a complex formula, we mathematically determined that descending was the better choice.
Didn't see any other hikers today, although on descent, there were fresh footprints as far as the first river crossing. There are not any No Parking signs at the end of Little River Road - so we parked there, and not at the Seven Dwarfs.
