Well - Since Micheal J is heading to VT - we're heading to Maine!

Geri and I, along with Julie (aka Cantdog) are running up to Stratton ME tomrrow night, staying at Deer Farm Campground in Kingfieild, ME - hiking the 3 Bigelow peaks on Sat.

Weather forecast is for mostly sunny with temps in the 50's on the mountain. Perfect for a 12 mile hike that will cross 3 peaks off the NEHH list.

If anyone is interested in joining us let us know.

While you're at it, do North Horn. It's a beautiful little peak with nice views of (South) Horn and it's barely 10 minutes off the trail. Its summit is actually more open than South Horn but being a few feet shorter with insufficient prominence, it doesn'tmake the list.
Here's South Horn from North Horn.

Gee, I feel so appreciated when people go several hundred miles in the opposite direction!

No worries. Your original plan was NEHH peakbagging, which I declined.
:D

I'm a little confused, though. I thought two of the three Bigelows were 67's, not 100's?

Well, when someone sez they're going to bag 100-highest's (back before saying where they were), that doesn't necessarily mean they're bagging 67's.

So I'm a little weird. I'd have said "Two 67's and a 100".

I just thought you'd finished your 67 since I know Cantdog has...

Nope - we finished the 48 last October and are now working on the NEHH - up to 79 (82 after this weekend). Our plans are to finish the 100 list on Mt Katahdin next August on our anniversary.

Therefore we will finish the 67 and the 100 at the same time - but for the record we only have 6 of the 67 to go, 4 after this weekend.

I needa scorecard!

Oh, wait ... that would be Mohamed's site.
:p

Kewl. I need to do that myself on my site, since I've got a 67 already and a few 100's.

You got *only* NE cannonball on a winter hike? Without Cannon or Kinsman? Ugh.

ps - Wapack, not Warpack. You needn't win any battles to complete the hike. :D

You didn't see the black flies we walked through on that hike! Warpack is appropriate!

Besides the black flies we had to deal with eating way too much at lunch time adn afterwards at dinner, not to mention getting up at 3:00 AM in order to meet and drop cars at the end and middel spots of the hike for car pooling. Mark did a great job of organizing the whole thing:

The Y-ALpine list is a list of the 100 highest peaks with trails in NH - the elevation differance between peaks does not matter so some peaks that do not qualify for the NH48 such as Mt Clay are included. Excluding the NH48 peaks, this is a great list to find lesser known peaks to climb. We have found many are just as long time wise as many of the 4K's and have views that are just as good - Tremont, Crawford, Stairs are a few that come to mind.

That'd be quite the party, indeed. We could all get a Baxter campsite together for it.

Or save a Vermont peak and finish at the Gathering next fall.

Save. Who am I kidding?
:)

If you want another Gathering rumor has it that somebody we all know is going to finish her 100 highest on Sunday Oct 17 in BSP. We will be driving up Sat, hiking Sun (Coe, Brothers, and Fort for #100), driving home Monday. All are welcome!!
