Most of this hike is a bushwhack with no established trails, but with very easy navigation. I used a MAP GPS, but map and compass would have worked well. I parked at the Old Pike FS road located in Rte 112 1.3 miles from Truant's Tavern in Woodstock. Followed the FS road until it ended in a clearing. There are two old roads leaving the clearing from opposite corners from where you came in. Take the lefthand road which exits through some bush. Follow the roads as long as they tend toward the summit of Grandview. Once they peter out continue through very open big hardwoods. Once you attain the summit of Grandview. Keep your eyes open for some old yellow flagging that follows the trace of the old Grandview Trail to the lower, but more scenic east peak where the remains of the old fire tower remain. In the col between the two peaks are stacks of lumber from the old wooden fire tower.
After visiting the old tower site, I bushwhacked down the mountain to the Mount Cilly Trail to visit the "ghost village" of Peeling and thence returned via "straight through the woods" back to my vehicle parked on Rte 118.
Nice log day spent with my excellent woods dog Buddy.
