Old Speck on 2/27/2016, OAB via A.T., Old Speck summit trail.
Random Group of Hikers, party of 4. Trails packed hard with ice & crusty snow at lower elevations, dusting of powder. A few tricky, short icy spots. Brand new powder drifts of up to 1.5 deep & breakable crust snow over older material began on ridge about 1.0mi from summit. Off trail depth at low elevations 6-8"; upper elevations 1.5-2.0ft. There were about a dozen other people on the trail, so the trail should be a well-hammered trough until the next snowfall. Water xings all well frozen over. We brought crampons but did not use them, did not bring snowshoes but wish we had them for the last mile. Microspikes the entire way. We did not see any tracks ascending the Eyebrow Trail or on the AT beyond the Speck summit trail.
