I live in Albany & besides the Adks & Catskill area where else are there great hikes; especially ones where i wouldn't necessarily have to stay overnight. Picturesque ones with awesome views & various challenges.
Also, with summer coming up (yippeee!) how about some info on swimming holes to hike or bike into around this area?
thanks guys!

What about heading over to Vermont? Leave early enough and there's a few options on the LT/AT.

Head over to the Kiattatinny's. You may want to stay overnight though. Here you can hike and Backpack in Worthing SF the DWG, Stokes SF High Point SP and three WMA. All making up well over 100,000+ acreas all linked together. You would be suprised at how beatiful NJ can be. Another great area is the Poconos of PA close to the Kattatinny's There are 2 great trails that allow backpacking like the 28 mile Thunder Swamp trail system in the delaware SF or the Pinchot trail in Lackawana SF. Plus many great SP and SF.

Do you consider the Gunk's part of the catskills? Sam's Point, Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska.

For a change, you can head over and do some of the East Hudson Trails, such as Breakneck Ridge, Storm King (partly west Hudson actually), Fahnestock. All of them make very nice dayhikes.. The long path has options for longer hikes too as that goes through the Gunks and south to Schunnemunk (although it uses alot of roads so that's not that great)...

If you're in Albany, check out the Bershires in western Mass, Beartown, October, Mt. Greylock, Monument Mtn, etc. etc...

Blue Ledges on Hudson

This is an amazing place. Not hard to get to from Albany, about a 1.5 mile hike in. The river is beautiful there, and the cliff are cool. This time of year the occasional rafter/kayaker will swing by. There is a great beach for picnicking/fishing/lounging.

And you can camp there should you wish to.

I had a link to an article, and i am digging for it. It is a great spot.
