Heading up Saturday for Greenleaf with three 10 year olds. Will be in the notch by 10:00. The idea of going up OBP directly to get first choice of bedding at the hut & then keeping the three of them off the vegetation for 4-5 hours before dinner sounds more daunting than a winter ascent. :D

Thinking of parking in the Basin Parking lot on the north side and then walking up the bike path. On Sunday possibly add Liberty & then on the way down bushwhack from the turn towards the bike path, near the basin, instead of heading to the Liberty Springs lot. (Will give the boys some practical map & compass use instead of the flags we use for orienteering.)

Can you park overnight at the Basin lots? We may opt for parking at Liberty Springs too. Anyone have their guidebook handy to see the distance between Liberty & basin & basin to the OBP/Falling water's trailhead? (I can look tonight too)

Liberty to Basin is .8 miles. Basin to OBP is 1.9 on my Map Adventures map

State park map says Basin to OBP is 1.7. As far as I know, overnight parking is allowed at the basin as it is the trailhead for the Basin Cascade Trail, we left a car there 10 years ago.

Went in this past Saturday from the Basin parking lot to the bike path and then to the bushwhack (winter route). Bushwhack is real visible so you might want to try a more direct route from the Flume Slide intersection for map and compass work. Have fun
