trails: lincoln woods trail, black pond trail, bushwack, lincoln brook trail, bushwack, owls head path

conditions: relatively light use on lincoln woods trail with some ski tracks and boot tracks in the morning. more travel in the afternoon. from black pond trail to the summit we were breaking trail through what ended up being less snow than i was expecting. maybe a few inches at most to the pond with some deeper snow through the bushwack. we went somewhat high on the way in then started low on the return eventually meeting our old track. 6+ inches on lincoln brook trail becoming a bit deeper in the bushwack ("brutus" variation). we followed a faint trough out of the usual starting point, but skipped the often used first road heading higher to another road which we left before reaching the open drainage avoiding some of the steeper climbing in that area. picked up another old trough higher up that eventually slabbed into unsavory terrain so continued up cutting over to the path somewhere around 3500. some drifiting on the ridge that had pretty well consolidated. water crossings were still snowbridged, but use caution.

equipment: we wore snowshoes the whole hike.

equipment: a nice day for a hike to owls head. trail breaking was relatively mild. a bit slippery on the steeps where the new snow wasn't adhering to the underlayer. caught a couple views through the trees before clouds moved in. thanks to cynthia and wayne for a great hike.
