I've never been on either of the bushwacking routes (I guess either via past Franconia Falls or Black Pond). Have these been broken out this winter? I see a trail conditions report reporting Franconia Brook and Lincoln Brook trails.

Thnx-Chris

Don't know about "broken out," especially after the Valentine's Day Storm, but a group of us did track it a few weeks ago (see Rocksnrolls's TR).

Black Pond Bushwhack is pretty easy, though. We headed due north (mag) from the pond and ended up just a hundred feet or so east of the trail where it comes in across Lincoln Brook from N to S.

You'll see Owl's Head a good part of the way along the bushwhack. People who preceeded us had drawn arrows in the snow showing where the trail branches off up the slide.

Oh, and we found it an easy walk out in the dark!

Bump...

I know this may be a moot point with Friday's impending storm, but has anyone seen the Owl's Head Bushwack broken out since the storm earlier this month? thnx

The Black Pond Bushwhack is broken out, as of Sunday March 4th thanks to Double Bow.

I've been thinking of doing Owls Head as a bush whack off of Layfayette/ Lincoln ridge. Thinking it would be best to have bivy bag just in case.
Anyone check that approach out this winter ?
