The Trails were all covered with 3-4 inches of new snow today, and the cold has frozen up the mud in most places. All the proper trails were in good shape and the river crossings were not bad. We descended the owls head slide with out incident but it was a little sketchy for just microspikes in spots.
*Note 1 We got a little low on the approach on the black pond bush wack so if your following tracks dont take the low road. Our higher track that we exited on is much better but not perfect.
*Note 2 Ascending on the "Brutus Bushwack" we were following a set of tracks that were coming down, and at some point after the birch glade we should have stuck to my compass bearings and gps points I had prepared instead of following the tracks. Because that track veered off to the left and took us through an area of very dense spruce and blow-downs. It does connect with the owlshead path but I would call this way the "Brutal Bushwack" and consider it a bad track to follow.
PS If the person who set the track coming down is reading this, its ok to snicker at our sufferfest that you know we went through. :)
