Trail conditions: Obviously will change drastically based on todays rain but this is what we found today.
Lincoln Woods: slushy in the morning...icy on the way out
Black PondTrail: Good footing with a few icy spots..water crossings easily done
Black Pond Bushwack: We head up a bit higher than the norm for this to avoid the mud pits..generally open woods with great footing..dropped east a little before the logging road and came up Fishermans Trail a couple of hundred yards to the Lincoln Brook Trail
Lincoln Brook Trail: a couple of inches of slushy snow..some mud..some ice..pretty easy going in both directions. Water crossings were doable with some icy rocks and for sure wet boots. One minor mishap
Brutus: Hit the logging road spot on..good footing..stayed in the drainage area a little higher than normal then cut up the slushy slope..pretty good footing by and large..came out to the "Trail" perfect
Owls Head Path: some ice and frozen granular interspersed with slush. We got soaked in the brushy areas just before the ridge. Multiple herd paths between the summits..basically stay to the left..good footing throughout
Equipment: I used micros but the others barebooted the whole day with only minor issues..Iciest spot was the Lincoln Woods Trail. Waterproof boots and gear a must today..pole helped on the crossings
Comments: what the heck..why not. We started out early to beat the impending storm and had summited pretty much without getting rained on. In the clouds with winds along the ridge..we did not linger. Rapid descent and crossings had us back on the Lincoln Brook Trail side where we hoofed it down to the Bushwack start..Had an excellent line out and avoided most mud through the Black Pond Bushwack.
The kicker is...it never really rained til we were back in the parking lot...
perfect..great day out with Tim C and Jeremy
a couple of somewhat soggy pics
