Trail Conditions: Lincoln Woods was (as usual) long, dry, and seemingly endless. Franconia Brook was in good shape, for the most part (two minor damp spots). Lincoln Brook had several muddy stretches. There were some slick sections on the Owl's Head slide, but nothing too scary. The water crossings were all doable, though it took me quite a long time to find a rock-hoppable route across both Franconia and Lincoln Brooks.
Special Equipment Required: Poles for the water crossings (and perhaps the slide, though I did not use them) are very helpful. Gaiters, too.
Comments: I'm simply dreadful when it comes to water crossings... which certainly didn't help when I had to face both Franconia and Lincoln Brooks. I ended up taking a misstep whilst crossing Lincoln Brook on my way to Owl's Head, and drenched my boots to the point where I honestly considered turning back. I needed to stop 3+ times simply to squeeze the water out of my socks, which got very frustrating after a while. However, I persevered and ended up making it to the Owl's Head slide... and wow, am I glad that I did. It was hugely fun to ascend, and not at all bad to descend (as long as some care is taken on the wet parts). I bushwhacked around at the summit for a bit, and am optimistic that I found both the "old" and "new" summits - There are cairns marking both at this point.cairns...
Only three more peaks to go until I complete my 48! I'm really hoping to finish this coming Sunday (on Carrigain - still have Isolation and Cabot to do as well.
