Trail Conditions: In general very good. On the Franconia Brook and Lincoln Brook Trails there were areas of dry mud (easy enough) and wet mud, at times quite deep and sometimes avoidable. The Path was the usual, with plenty of water running down once you got off the scree. From the trees on there were plenty of blowdowns as frequently reported but no worse than usual The path to the "new" summit is very easy to follow.

Equipment needed: Poles for the water crossings.

Comments: A perfect day to do this long hike, sunny with a nice breeze and quite cool. Most of this hike is really a lovely walk in the woods. Too bad one has to scramble so much to get the spendid views from the top of the slide! Still hoping the train will be there to meet me when we reach the Wilderness trail on the way out. Water crossings today were doable with care on the way in. Coming out we decided to take off our boots and wade across the the second crossing which was fine until the last yard when I managed to slide nicely into the water! Silverfox and I had another good day out together.
