Lisa,
I had a blast! I'll bet we stopped and talked to other hikers for about 2 hours out of our hike (easily). That was one of the most fun dayhikes I've ever done. I never thought that I'd ever actually enjoy hiking out on the Wilderness trail! It was strange seeing so many hikers on this hike. I'm still amazed at a) the guy who was cruising along with no pack and no water and b) the size of that one kid's pack from the boy's group (easily 1/2 his size!)

Crying on Owl's Head

Sherpa definitely handled it correctly -- he basically ignored it without being dismissive, laughed at me and then bucked me up with some encouraging words. He didn't make that big a deal of it, so I was saved SOME embarrassment!

I guess he's a guy in touch with his feminine side! ;)

crying in hiking

Lisa - great to see you made it up Owl's Head. I have the pleasure (?) of it being #47 on my list.

As for crying-- I had just a few miles left to camp on a long day on the Long Trail recently - famous for it's ups and downs. There was just this last little steep up and I just wanted to toss myself down and sleep there. The tears started to flow... it's hard when the mind says 'go' while the body says 'I don't think so'.
