Date: 2/9/08. Our group of two barebooted the first 3 miles pulling sleds. Left sleds & switched to snowshoes. At first just a few inches of new snow but amount increased to eight or more inches near the top of Owlshead. We were able to make out the route followed the previous weekend above the skidder trail to the Owlhead trail above the slide. Snowshoes were essential, never used crampons. Poles helpful. In the morning while crossing Black Pond, water started to fill the snowshoe tracks - we backed up and avoided the wet area.
