Does anyone know whether this fee is being enforced in the White Mountain NF any longer? During the 5 days I hiked in the Whites when I visited in July I didn't see any enforcement envelopes on vehicle windshields, but did hear stories of how the USFS has been reducing staff.

Has anyone gotten a 'ticket' lately?

I got one a couple of weeks ago in the Glen Ellis lot in Pinkham Notch (Glen Boulder Trailhead). It wasn't really a "ticket" because it just reminded me of my need to pay the $3 (which I hadn't only because I didn't have change) and the possible fines if I didn't. I sent it in a few days later with my $3.

I was parked at North Twin TH all day yesterday and did not receive a
notice even though my current annual parking pass is sitting on my desk
at home and not on my windshield. I'm pretty sure that is a fee
area. Maybe on a beautiful summer Saturday they have more important
things to do?

I did, however, see a Sherrif's car patrolling both the Gale River and North
Twin parking lots as I ended my hike. I liked seeing that.

I agree. I saw one driving slowly thru the parking lot at Lafayette Place in July. Didn't happen to notice whether he was videotaping license plates on that day or not, but have seen them do it on several occasions.

Have also seen NH state cruisers driving slowly thru the lot at Appalachia on many occasions. Every little bit helps to prevent vandalism.

in my entire career of hiking in the whites (the past 3 years including Moosilauke, Jefferson, Hancocks, Osiola, Liberty, Cannon, Kinsmans to name a few) i've never paid and never got a ticket *knock on wood* so i don't know if they just randomlly check in random places or what.

Sorry, but I've never bought a ticket and have never been "fined" or whatever, either.

How can you just not get a pass? The cost is so low it just makes no sense to me. It takes all of five min. I dont have my pass for this yr but I will my first trip up next month, what is it 20 bucks? Thats not even a good bottle of Brandy!!

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy one online or by phone and have it mailed? I live in Boston and can't always get up there to pick one up.

You can buy one at the REI in Reading, don't know about the other REI's around Boston. I thought some EMS stores still carry them but I couldn't tell you which ones.

I've seen tickets on people's cars, at least once every season including this one. There are many trailhead parking lots that aren't covered by the pass so that might skew your impressions. No idea about how frequently they write them up.

Hi Kev,

I received a "reminder" on my car that I owed $3 on our recent Carter Dome trip while parked at 19 Mile Brook. I forgot that I brought my other car.
Went to the Ranger station and bought a new sticker for $20 and they told me I didn't owe the $3 now.

The breakdown to $1.66 per month seems nominal enough especially if they use the funds to watch over the cars and take care of the trailheads.

You can also earn your parking pass as a bonus for doing trail work in the the WNNF. I've always been opposed to these passes, but then have never had to worry about one since it comes with the territory as an AMC trail maintainer.

I have not seen or heard of any tickets/fines this year. I have known couple people who were fined, a few years ago. $20.00 a year seems pretty cheap to me, considering the boundless benifit I derive from it.

I have found that many of the convienience stores in the White Mountains sell the stickers (including the two in Twin Mountain.) This year I bought mine at the Lincoln Woods Information Center at 7:00 in the morning. They are not tough to get.
