SNOW!!! Let me say that again S-N-O-W :D

Great to be back on the white stuff although most of it had gone below 2,000' on the way down. On the way up there was a dusting from the get-go increasing to 3-5" higher up. Enough to give useful traction and lend that 'Winter Wonderland' look to everything despite that fact that temps never went below 34* all day.

In honor of "Wack-a-Thon '04" (or whatever its being called) there were several nasty blowdowns that required some short bushwacks. Also a lot of deadfall from the high winds.

The sun kept peeking between the racing clouds all day. No precipitation but enough treemelt splattering down to warrant a hat and jacket.

Cloudy, but nice views from the north east and east ledges.

Question - How damn far down that spur trail on the summit signed 'To View' does one have to go? I went several yards further than the other person to give it a shot but it never seemed to lead to anything and one thing I don't need is more 'up' on a hike :)

I'll have pics up later today.

Bob

PS - Did I mention the snow?

The book says it's only 3/10 of a mile to the view but it seems like 3 miles. I started down it and I kept saying to myself just a little bit further. Then after I had said that about 10 times, I said that's it I'm going to the end wherever it is! And actually the view was well worth it. Next time you're out there, keep going. I highly recommend it. The only downside is it's uphill all the way back after you've already put in quite a few miles.

Bob -- Just spotted your pix. Nice, as usual! It's clear that NH has a lot more snow than VT does so far.

Pics are up and can be found starting HERE

Alpinista et al - I've added a detour link on the first image page that takes you to all the recovered early images. Considering they were almost completely black I'm amazed at what I was able to salvage.

Great pictures, Bob! It's amazing how different the snow levels were in NH and VT.

I thought the detour pictures were neat... they were eerie and Halloween-ish. At least, that's what kept coming to mind.

Picture #34... Name these Peaks.
OK, I believe what you are looking at is Crawford Notch in the center of the picture. The ridgeline to the East is the Southern Presi's, with the white-capped Eisenhower visible. The highest peak to the right is of course Washington. Jefferson can barely be seen from this viewpoint between Eisenhower and Washington. I recall seeing these peaks from Passaconaway. Can anyone else confirm this?
I like your picture trip-reports by the way... I have been inspired to finally get a digital camera to document my trips like you do!

Cheers,
Paul
