I'm thinking about the loop tomorrow (Sat. 7/6) to avoid the crowds, and am wondering... Clockwise or counter-clockwise? Clockwise was my first thought, but then I made the mistake of looking at the AMC guidebook, which leads to question #2: are any of the Downes Brook crossings really likely to be impassable? If that's just a far-flung possibility then I might go counter-clockwise; if its really likely then I guess I'd go out-and-back via Oliverian Brook...

Thanks for any input!

I have gone Whiteface to Passaconaway and Passaconaway to Whiteface a few times. I think that it is a bit easier going from Whiteface to Passaconaway as it seems most of the Rollins trail gently leads you downhill. Of course, you'll still have the summit cone of Passaconaway to climb... The views into the Bowl on the Rollins trail are neat, though. Have a safe hike and enjoy!

I was though there, clockwise, at the end of May. At the there was more water than normal, but all the crossings were passable without any problem. The rocks for the final crossing coming down Dicey's Mill were under water and I opted to cross on a very convenient large birch that spanned the stream.

Of course it has rained some since then.

With a name like yours, what's impassable? Even a snorkel might do :)

Note that the usual W-P loop is from Wonalancet as #3 assumed
