Followed the well worn path from North Gale River Road to Haystack Mtn. Wet in a couple of spots but no big deal. Great views up on Haystack. Found "Blair Witch" campsite and crossed stream. 'Wacked up along stream through mostly open woods until stream opened into slide. Got onto slide at at an obvious ledge. The slide was like a highway that took me almost all the way to the top! Slide was wet/slippery in spots and required some care in foot placement, but nothing bad. Short bushwack above the slide led to a great view of North Twin, The Hales, and Mt Washington. The canister was right near here on a fallen tree.
Met another former AT thru-hiker a few minutes later who came up from the
Haystack Road route. Maybe the easiest "bushwack" on NEHH. #99 for me.
Special equipment: Hiking poles helpful for going up and down the slide. Compass bearly made it out of the pack, but useful for checking bearing.
