trails: pogy notch trail, center ridge trail, traveler mountain trail, north traverler trail
conditions: trails were in real nice shape. a bit of mud on pogy notch trail then dry ledge and rock on center ridge. footbed is vague in places, but trail is well blazed. dry walking to traveler with continued good blazing and cairns. coming off of traveler i noted little blazing and the footbed was again vague, but once down off the summit cone heavy blue blazing again appeared. wooded sections had great dry footing. continued good dry ledge over north traveler. north traveler trail in good shape. some loose rock and eroded areas down low above the pond.
equipment: nothing in particular.
comments: a truly spectacular loop of the traveler. after years of having these peaks in mind i finally made a last minute decision to head up and get in the hike. couldn't have asked for a better day with clear views in every direction and temps more akin to a nice fall day than july. my first time in the northern end of the park and i was more than impressed. possibly my favorite hike to date in baxter. topping it off was some nice paddling into the early evening down on south branch pond.
