Date: June 4th.
The sightings:
1) Red Subaru with NH plates and VFTT sticker on the side window. I saw you on I93 near exit 28 at about 7:30am heading north, then again on I93 near exit 28 at about 7:30pm heading south.
2) Michael J (I think) heading south just below Bond summit at about noon. Michael (if it was you), I was the northbound hiker wearing the red St. Louis Cardinals hat.
The trip:
- 4 hours of sleep
- 3.5 hour drive from home to Lincoln
- Lincoln Woods to Bondclifff, Bond, South Twin, Galehead Hut, back to LW via Twin Brook and Franconia Brook trails. No time for full Pemi Loop... full loop plus 7 hours of driving in one day on four hours of sleep is too much for me. This smaller loop is only about 6 miles less than the full loop, but much much less strenuous. Still tiring for this boy, but bypassing Garfield Ridge and Franconia Ridge puts this hike in a different league.
- 3.5 hour drive back home. The drive home was made possible by Coca Cola, a calzone from Elvio's, Steely Dan and Rush (It's impossible to fall asleep at the wheel listening to "La Villa Strangiato" with the volume maxed out).
The trails:
- LW, Wilderness, Bondcliff, Twinway, and Twin Brook all dry with rock hop-able water crossings. Franconia Brook Trail has some major mud zones, but short treks through the woods have been established. The major brook crossings along FBT are hop-able with boots, not so hop-able with trail runners that you want to keep dry. Need to go up/down river to look for easier options.
New favorite product: Glide (no details needed)
The weather: 100 on a scale of 1-100.
The bugs: plentiful and delicious.
