We brought our niece and nephew up Phelps for their first High Peak. Trail from the Loj was muddy in spots. Snakes still curled up on the far end of the Marcy Dam in the sun! Several people hiking out reported bear activity the night before, but we saw none. We had sunny and humid skies at the summit of Phelps, with excellent views of the Great Range before the clouds began to envelope them. The steep SW approach to Saddleback looks amazing from this vantage.
We considered including Tabletop, too, but the rain showers on the way down persuaded us to keep this first hike a more pleasant one for the kids. An hour at the summit for lots of views.
