Typical roots, rocks, and mud on the trail to Phelps. Crystal clear weather for the great views from the top! The Great Range peaks jutting to the sky were awe inspiring. Trail to Tabletop easy to find at the top of ski trail about .3 miles before Indian Falls along Van Ho trail. Large cairn and small sign mark the beginning. Old blowdown and narrow, rugged drainage with occassional mud traps form this "path". Easy to follow the entire route. Nice views of the MacIntyres and Colden unfold behind you as you climb. Viewpoint to N of the Mckenzies and Whiteface as you reach the plateau at top. Trail along ridge to summit rock has many mud traps. Summit rock on S side of top has little view but a short decent beyond this offers spectacular views of the steep sides of Gothics and Saddleback as well as Basin, Haystack, Marcy and Grey. Usual equipment for day in the Daks. Fantastic day to be in the High Peaks! #15 for me, lucky #13 for Bman.
