Hi all,
I have a friend from the midwest visiting the area. He and his sons are going to hike Mt. Moosilauke via the the Gorge Brook/Carriage Road/Snapper loop . Meanwhile, his wife will be shopping/sightseeing in Lincoln.

He asked me if there is cell phone service or a pay phone at or near Ravine Lodge, so he can call his wife to pick him and the boys up after the hike.

So...I am in turn asking this question to you: is there cell phone service or a pay phone at or near Ravine Lodge?

Thanks as always!

Marty

There used to be a payphone in the lodge; I'm pretty sure it's been removed for several years now. Cell phone is extremely spotty. There is a land line phone up there that you might be able to use if you ask nicely.

You can call the lodge (603) 764-5858 and ask them if you'll be able to borrow their phone (or a cell phone owned by one of the staff).

by the way, I'll be there this weekend. Say Hi if you are there.

Spencer,
Unfortunately, I have to travel to a wedding this weekend. Would much rather be hiking the Moose. My friend and his sons are going tomorrow (Friday).

3 weeks ago, a few of us were able to send a text message, but not a phone message. We had like 0.01 bars, on Verizon. So it's possible that you might be able to get a "pick us up" through. The closest voice service we found was in N Woodstock and it was reliable.

The text message may have been able to get through during a short period of better signals. With speech, users tend to get unhappy unless the signal is good for a long continuous period.

Marty:
You might be able to get a cell phone connection from the South Summit or upper portion of the carriage road. Both spots would tend to have a line-of-sight to the N Woodstock area.
