I am looking for professional photos, framing size (24"X 18" or larger) of Baxter State park, specifically katadhin and Doubletop. I have a room in my house dedicated to photos of my favorite trips& mts. I have a couple of nice Chuck Theodores of the Whites. I have several great photos of the west, JamesKay.com is a wonderful site, (he is also a great guy) that has great shots of the Rockies and Canyons. does any one know of any professionals who have done work in Baxter? My search of the web has come up empty.

Katahdin pics

My girlfriend bought me an amazing picture of Katahdin while she was at the Appalachian Trail headquarters in Harpers Ferry. You may want to check their site.

There's a couple of real beauties in the book "Calling Me Back to the Hills" which chronicles Earl Shaffer's 1998 50th anniversary thru-hike.

The first shot is a sunset scene opposite the title page and the second, the best picture I have ever seen of the mountain, faces page 122. They both look like they were taken from the same spot, across the West Branch of the Penobscot.

The photos are by Bart Smith and the book is published by Westcliffe Publishers (www.westcliffepublishers.com)

You might also want to contact The Camera Hunter. This is Bill Silliker's site, a well known Wildlife photographer. Bill unfortunately died of an apparent heart attack October 13th on Roaring Brook trail while photographing. He was a contributor to Impact New England's Baxter State Park Calender since 1994.

You could also check with Tim Seaver (a VFTT member). I've seen some of his pictures, and they are great (disclaimer: I do not know Tim personally)

sherpaK, Thanks much for that link. Bill Silliker's Baxter Park calendars are a fixture in my kitchen every year ... just wish they put the winter shots in the summer months and vise versa ...

Met Bill at a Baxter Park campfire chat a few years ago. He gave a talk on moose he has known and photographed. I always thought he was able to catch the essence of why I go hiking. Great photographer, lecturer and person.

Thanks to all for your help and direction, I am sure I will get hold of some great shots. Of course, what I really need to do is start shooting for myself, another thing to throw in the pack!:)

I have shot many rolls of film while hiking Katahdin. I use a Minolta S-1 (APS) camera. But I suppose you are looking for something better than consumer grade photographs here, with blowups the size you are asking about.

I would be happy to share the photos I have shot, though I havn't tried to make such large prints from them.

The attached file is obviously low-res to fit on the site (100k limit). The original scanned document is 13 Megs.

Thanks Skiddah, that shot of the first crag is excellent (always gets the heart pumping!)- I know next to nothing about photography- I will do some research on the possibility of blowing that type of photo up to poster size.
