Trail wet with a dusting of snow on the first mile which graduated to 1-2 inches of wet snow on the upper elevations.

No special equipment needed but I did put on microspikes at Pico Cabin expecting the "steep" .4 mile to the summit to be steeper than it was.

I relied on trip reports described by d&d and Damselfly, which describe hiking the ski slope that intersects the trail (at 2 miles) to the summit rather than the actual trail that traverses the contour (taking you to Pico Cabin and then to the summit via Pico Link trail). I opted to hike the trail and found that section of trail uninspiring so how you get up and back is a matter of choice. Couldn't find the rock with the blaze on it indicating the summit but found the pile of rocks (snow covered) by the water pipe at the HOL. Summit was windy and overcast, temp in the 40's.

A good number of people were out today, many wearing orange - hunting season started this weekend in VT. The numbers may be typical for this peak but Killington Ski Resort opened for the season the day before so that may have been why. Got locked in the cabin; apparently the outside hook that secures the door was in just the right position. When slammed the hook engaged; wonder what that couple passing by was thinking when they heard us yelling to get out - thanks whoever you were!
