Has anyone hiked Pitcher Mtn recently? I am interested in the status of blueberries. I have found ripe blueberries on Mt Monadnock (NH), in limited supply, off trail.

Gap Mountain used to have tons on blueberries. Used to pick them all the time before moving to GA.

I haven't hiked there recently, but blueberries are not quite ready, from what I've seen in the barrens of southern Maine. In contrast, wild strawberries were abundant there two weeks ago.

Pitcher is (almost) in my backyard and I hike it with my 3 and 4 year old on a regular basis. OUr last trip was June. There are a few ripe blueberries in my backyard but the bushes haven't peaked yet.

Give it another 2 weeks and you'll be in prime season.

Mike,

Your original post made me realize I haven't been up pitcher in a few months and gave me incentive to bring the kids on a blueberry picking adventure.

Take a look!

The blueberries are in good shape in Kennebunk, Maine, so perhaps that are, too, at Pitcher...?

I was up on Rumford Whitecap yesterday (7/23) and the crop is really nice! It was 92 degrees, but the berries were nice and sweet! The views weren't bad either.

We hiked and munched on plentiful berries yesterday on Monadnock's Marlborough Trail. I was tempted to pick some to bring home, but it was just too HOT!

Pitcher Mountain must be great right now.

Lovewell Mtn. - about 10 miles north of Pitcher Mtn. on the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway - had lots of ripe and delicious blueberries yesterday. I would say they are still a few days away from peak, however - there were still some green berries among the ripe ones.

A few miles of easy walking past Pitcher Mtn on the Monadnock Sunapee Greenway brings you to Hubbard Hill, with a large area of high and low bush berries.

The blueberry fields on Blue Job in Farmington/Strafford should be in season now. I haven't been up there in a few weeks, but I took a trip there last summer with the kids at this same time and they were great (made some amazing muffins). If you've never been to Blue Job, the area between the summit of Blue Job proper (with the fire tower) and "Little Blue Job" (the lower one with the bald top and AMAZING views) has what I would guess as 5+ acres of blueberries created by a controlled burn in the area once every few years. A really special place for being so far south in the state. You can see Monadnock, Kearsarge, Belknaps, Ossipees, Chocorua, the Presidentials...

Also, yesterday, I took a trip up Madison on the Upper Inlook (Kelton Crag) and we feasted on ripe blueberries the entire way along the ledges.

North Pack Monadnock has some nice patches. I went off the trail near the top and filled a quart bag and probably ate another 1/2 quart. They are pretty small, but very sweet!
