I need to complete a few random peaks this fall and had a couple of scenarios in mind that I wanted to run by the "experts" in this forum.

Day 1 would involve parking at St. Huberts and taking the Ausable Club road to access Colvin and Blake, then crossover to Shanty Brook trail to get Sawteeth then descend to Lower Ausable Lake then out to car, then drive over to Heart Lake and hike into Marcy Dam.

Day 2 from Marcy Dam head over to Haystack then reverse direction picking up Tabletop and Phelps then back to MArcy Dam.

any thoughts or variations would be appreciated..

This trip is probably do-able. Day 2 might be a tad grueling. Maybe instead I could offer up the idea of parking at the garden, and hiking Haystack from Bushnell Falls or Slant rock, and then grabbing Tabletop while you are there. Because Phelps is such an easy hike, it may be best to save it for last, and bring some friends and family along. I know there are a few sherpas here who would like to share your 46th and carry up some champagne. Phelps also has a nice view of the larger peaks, due to it's central location. Just an idea...

percious, thanks for the Sherpa services offer. My post may have been misleading, I'm only up to 22 on the high peaks list. What I meant was that I need to complete these peaks so that I have these areas clear of any random peaks. I only get a couple of chances to peak bag a year so I try to do mutiples on a weekend. The idea to head up to slant rock on day two sounds appealing. If I went that route I would probably camp at JBL. Is tenting permitted at JBL? I've only stayed in the leantos before.

Yes, tenting is available at JBL. There is a nice site off to the right of the first trail leading up to Big Slide. I have stayed there numerous times. Be sure to bring your bear container, because from what I understand they have been pretty ferocious near JBL.

Also, there seems to be some disagreement on this board with regards to shorey short cut, which may be one of your possible route choices. Personally, I think the trail is difficult, but fair. It is beautiful, but adds to your accent.

Regarding random peaks. I know how you feel. I still have Yard and Nippletop lingering, as well as Phelps. I polished off Gray and Marshall earlier this year, with a re-visit to Marcy. Its really cool to head up there, and see everything you have climbed over the past few years. I plan on nabbing Phelps with my son attached to my back in 2 weeks :) Yard and Nippletop will have to wait.

Very doable hikes. But back to back like that, I hope you don't have to drive home to far on day three. I'd be a zombie.
