Date of Hike: Saturday 6/14/08
Trail Conditions: Excellent. A very small snow field remains to be crossed (quite safely) when ascending Jefferson from Edmands Col. From Mizpah Hut to Jackson to Webster to Crawford Notch (via Webster Jackson) has some mud and slick spots, that, at least for us toward the end of a very long day, needed to be negotiated with some care.
Special Equipment Required: hats, lots o' sunscreen. "Leukotape," moleskin, and Bag Balm for blister prevention. Lots of food, Gatorade powder, Nuun tabs, and cold, cold beer waiting in Tim's super-insulated cooler at Crawford Notch. There were plentiful bugs, but we apparently smelled too foul to be appetizing.
Comments: all summits were summited, official and unofficial, none were bypassed. Madison, Adams, Jefferson, Clay, George, Monroe, Franklin, Ike, Pierce, Jackson and Webster. We started up Valley Way at 5:00 AM on the nose (by my watch) and finished 5:27 PM, 12 hours 27 minutes, 3+ hours ahead of "book" time. Kiersten headed down Crawford Path after Pierce, which was her plan from the get go, and also handily beat book time. Congratulations Kiersten on an outstanding first traverse!
