Route: Appalachia -> Webster Cliff Trail Head (Junction of AT and Rt. 302)
The route is generally in good condition except some wet muddy spots below the treeline on the Valley Way, Watson Path and the section of Webster Cliff Trail between Pierce and Mizpath Spring Hut. The muddy segments are quite manageable. Even wearing low cut waterproof trail shoes, one can maneuver through them and keep the feet dry. The last 3.3 miles of Webster Cliff Trail (from Webster to Rt. 302) is surprisingly dry though they are below the treeline.
The following is the timing of a group with moderate pace and frequent breaks including two long ones at the Madison Hut and Mt. Washington summit for breakfast and lunch.
Appalachia: 5:34
Madison: 8:02
Madison Spring Hut: 8:30
Adams: 9:26
Jefferson: 10:39
Clay: 11:35
Washington: 12:39
Monroe: 14:22
Franklin: 14:44
Eisenhower: 15:26
Pierce: 16:19
Mizpath Hut: 16:47
Jackson: 17:37
Webster: 18:18
Jct of AT and Rt. 302 20:10
Special Equipment Required:
Hiking poles – very useful for managing muddy and slippery segments.
