“How about a couple of Rattlesnakes”; that’s what we said to each other as we looked at the dark dreary sky out the windows of the Sunny Day Diner. Soon we were on our way to the Holderness Area just off of Route 113.
We stopped at the Squam Lake covered bridge to capture the rich colors of the distressed wood.
Both parking lots at the trail heads were full of vehicles; seems like other people had the same idea.
We donned our raingear and headed up the trail to West Rattlesnake Mountain, leaving our lumbar packs in the van. We were impressed with trail construction and the use of natural materials to maintain the integrity of the pathway.
Although the drizzly and foggy conditions hindered our views of distance summits, we still were able to see Squam Lake and nearby Red Hill.
There were still many trees showing their fall colors.
We made the most of a rainy day.
