Route: Pinkhma Notch ->Tuckerman Ravine Trail -> Huntington Ravine Trail -> Huntington Ravine Fire Road -> Raymond Path -> Old Jackson Road -> Pinkhm Notch.

I asked a few people about the trail condition, especially, water crossing of this loop before the hike, but could not get a sure answer and this is the main reason for me to post this here hoping it is useful for those who want to hike this loop which has a large very lightly traveled section.

Tuckerman Ravine Trail: Clear, heavy traveled.

Huntington Ravine Trail: Crossing the Cutler River without getting feet wet is difficult. I tried but slipped into knee high water. A very skilled hiking pole user may be able to cross it with dry feet by some acrobatic moves. The following water crossing, 0.1 miles down from the first one, is fairly easy. Some mossy rocks are quite slippery.

Huntington Ravine Fire Road: Wide and easy to travel with only a few muddy spots that can be easily got around

Raymond Path: Quite some muddy segments. High-cut boots would be very useful. I was wearing trail running shoes, so I had to maneuver through them carefully. The few water crossings were all easy.

Old Jackson Road: Heavy traveled AT. Since by the time I reached there, T-storm and downpour had already started, so I cannot tell whether there were wet sections without the rain. However, it was very easy to travel on this trail even with heavy rain.

I did not see a single hiker on the Huntington Ravine Trail section, Huntington Ravine Fire Road and Raymond Path. It is quite possible that anticipating T-storm, wise hikers avoided them or any hiking in the area.

Special Equipment Required:
High-cut hiking boots - useful for stepping through muddy spots.
Hiking poles – very useful for water crossing.

P.S. The entire Presi-Traverse path (Appalachia to Crawford Notch) on Saturday, 5/21/08 was as good as it could get. The tiny snowfield on Jefferson added nothing but cushioning. Since this path is very well covered, I thought there was no need to post another report.
