We set out in search of new horizons today. We had never done any hiking in the Red Hill area and I had heard that the views were great so off we went.
To our surprise we found the Fire Tower open and operating. Fire Warden Ed Maheux invited us up to the room at the top. It was interesting to see him working up there.
The views from there were pretty good.
Before we left Ed offered us a "free" ticket. As you can see, it's not good for anything, it's just free. Really cute.
After leaving the tower we headed north to Eagle Cliff. While the Fire Warden's trail had been snow free, there was a lot of snow on the north side. It varied anywhere from a foot to knee deep. That lasted for a mile and a half. Once down around 1400' it was gone. What with all the snow I wondered for a while if I had made a mistake going that way, but the views from Eagle Cliff are spectacular, better I think, than from the fire tower.
Lauky gave his approval. We soaked up the views for a while then headed down.
The road walk back was long, at least an hour, but all in all it was a great hike.
