Yes, a good read indeed. But then, the arctic and antarctic, provide a wealth of great adventure stories. I grew up fascinated by what our small town library offered: Shackleton, Byrd, Freuchen, etc. Then one day the librarian, sensing my interest, showed me a hand written letter from Winfield Jewell (yes, the Jewell of the Jewell Trail.) Needless to say, I soon read everything I could find about the Greely Expedition. You can read about it and watch a video here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/introduction/greely-intro/.
If great fiction interests you, be sure to look at A Dream in Polar Fog by Yuri Rytkeu. (Not Greely related.) Amazon has it.
