Sorry to report that a mountain biker was found dead yesterday afternoon on the west loop of the Rocky Point Mountain Bike Trail on Long Island. He was young, 49 I think, and left behind a wife a children. So unfortunate how things can change so quickly.
No known cause of death has been determined yet but foul play has been ruled out. It was likely a medical condition or possible injuries from a crash. The mountain biker who found the departed believed that a broken neck may have been the cause but that has not been confirmed yet.
Rich Olsen was his name and he was riding a single speed mountain bike, solo. He was dedicated to trail maintenance and had adopted various sections of trails to maintain on Long Island.
Please be careful.
