A friend asked if I wanted to go climbing with the kids at Rumney today, so I asked the kids, who have never been climbing before, and they said,
"SURE!"

So off we went.
I have only been rock climbing twice in my life, about 15 years ago, so Kevin gave me a refresher on belaying. He set the top rope on " A week with Pete" on the Parking Lot wall, and I belayed. After that Nate was up next.

Here is Emma. What do you think is going through her mind?

Well, Emma is an interesting kid. She is very concerned about doing things well, and if she doesn't think she will be good at something, she will usually quit right away.

this time she didn't.

:D:D I was So proud of all the kids today. They did a great job trying something new, and a possibly a little bit scary. But, today was a great day for Emma especially, because she learned that sometimes, when you have that feeling of uncertainty about something new, and you go for it anyway, you just might surprise yourself and find out you're really good at it!

Emma

Climbing just goes with the name, Emma. I think your Emma may be cuter than ours, but don't tell my wife I said that! What a great bunch of kids! They must have had a blast!

Thanks all. It was a really cool day. I really appreciate Kevin taking us over there. I am now on the lookout for a kids harness so we can be a little more efficient at getting kids on the rock. there was a lot of down time as we were switching kids in and out of harnesses. I may have to get my own harness, too. That way, we could belay two kids at once. I guess I'll have to do some more research on places and routes, too. I know there is a place pretty close to me...Eagle Hollow, I think.

Great TR and day with the kids Jason!!! :D

My grandson's are ready to climb too, been practicing and am buying a kids harness...so much fun watching them!!

So cool to see the little ones enjoying a fun sport!!
