A friend asked if I wanted to go climbing with the kids at Rumney today, so I asked the kids, who have never been climbing before, and they said,
"SURE!"
So off we went.
I have only been rock climbing twice in my life, about 15 years ago, so Kevin gave me a refresher on belaying. He set the top rope on " A week with Pete" on the Parking Lot wall, and I belayed. After that Nate was up next.
Here is Ethan working on rappelling down.
Abby is about 2/3rds of the way up!
Here is Emma. What do you think is going through her mind?
Well, Emma is an interesting kid. She is very concerned about doing things well, and if she doesn't think she will be good at something, she will usually quit right away.
this time she didn't.
the other kids stopped watching the other climbers, and cheered Emma on.
I was So proud of all the kids today. They did a great job trying something new, and a possibly a little bit scary. But, today was a great day for Emma especially, because she learned that sometimes, when you have that feeling of uncertainty about something new, and you go for it anyway, you just might surprise yourself and find out you're really good at it!
