Date of Hike:
Trail Conditions: 4-6" of loose snow on consolidated base until S. Hancock loop split. 12-24" unpacked snow on steep section up to South. Barebooted up, snowshoes all the way back. Steep trail is now broken out but not consolidated - be careful. The rest of the trail is now well packed and very enjoyable.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes - Required, Crampons recommended - especially for the steep sections. Poles very useful.
Comments: Nice day - single digits at 7AM, 20's by mid day. Restricted VFTO (Outlook). Round trip took 5:30. Quite a workout on the steep section both up and DOWN. Was accompanied by Dave B and we kept a comfortable pace for both of us - this was his 39th overall and my 40th Winter peak.
