I'm going to be hiking and Benchmark hunting in western Maine next weekend.
On my game plan for Saturday the 9th is Sabattus Mtn. It's turns out there are two of them, and the "other" one is the well known one. The other one is in the far west of the state near the NH line, near Center Lowell. It's on Delorme map #10 D2. That's the one in the AMC Maine Mountain Guide. It has a fire tower and great views. But forget that one.
The one on my list is lower (about 800 feet) and is about 6 miles northeast of Lewiston just east of Sabattus Pond, just east of Route 132. It's on Delorme map 12 E1.
I have not been able to find any information about trails, parking, etc. for this one. If anyone familiar with the Lewiston area could dig into their memory or ask local hiking buddies, or local sources about this Sabattus Mountain, any information would be appreciated. Otherwise we'd just have to drive around and see what we find.
