Five of us started from the ski trails at 8. Some ice and snow drift, but nothing really bad. The wind made it more difficult and slower, but the visibility was good. At 12 we were back at the car, now going to Stratton pond road. The road up to the summer TH is opened by snowmobiles (there are only a few places to park cars at the end of the plowed section). We started at 1h30 hoping that someone broke the warden's trail while we were fighting the wind on the AT and we got lucky. A group of 3 camped near the pond and broke the trail up to the col between the two peaks. Avery was a little bit harder to break (non-supportive crust). Then we got to West just before sunset. Finally back at the car at 8, the road got a lot of snowmobile traffic in the afternoon, but snowshoes were still helpful.
