conditions: a total mix. bare ground, rock, and soft snow along with much wetness down low. after the 3 steep pitches before noon peak snowshoes are a good idea. there will be some exposed ledge after, but postholing is inevitable without them. once past the drakes brook junction you almost get a real snowshoe track rather than the spine of snow in the middle down lower, but steps to the side even with snowshoes are no fun. "bushwacked" the immediate crossing from the trailhead using the road as the brook was dangerously high.
equipment: t shirt, shorts, snowshoes. plus the usual essentials although the former were all that were needed today. i was wishing i had waterproofed my boots this spring (thought i could get away with doing it last fall) as my feet were very wet and cold higher up.
comments: very warm. first time out in a month and the heat and soft snow took their toll. enjoyed the hazy views.
*found a digital camera a little less than halfway up the trail. if the owner wants to e-mail me with a detailed description i will gladly send it to them.*
nice to get back out.
