Beautiful day. Leaves are long gone up high, but the valleys are lovely, glinting gold.
Trail in is very very wet, running water, deep mud, lots of rock hopping and slopping through. New/Old trail--the brook is high, even rock hopping doesn't keep feet dry. Beaver pond obscures the lower part of the trail. The snow from last weekend has melted, leaving standing water and mud particularly Santanoni to Times Square and on the way to Panther (amazing bog just before the summit). Trail to Couch is dry and easy.
I used my pole all day as I bounded from rock to rock.
I usually am tired as I come out and wish the road shorter (true I usually come out in the dark) but what a gorgeous walk through the yellow leaves in the late afternoon sun.
