Trail Conditions: Very solid hard pack from Lake Road to base of Sawteeth. Then progressively deeper snow maxing out at around 4 inches of powder over a firm base. There was a group that was coming down as we were coming up (the direct route, not the scenic route) and they were posting holing pretty badly, though, so there might be evidence of that. On scenic route coming down VERY deep snow, up and over 12 inches. A soft but firm base, yet trail is often times hard to find. Scenic route has some very steep sections with an ice base. Since it snowed the entire day, much of trail might become covered again.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes essential, and tails for MSRs would be a great idea. Trekking poles were helpful for balance. Crampons not needed, though they might be helpful it ASCENDING the Scenic Trail.

Comments: Trip report will come soon to provide more info. The Scenic Trail is quite challenging, just so you know, and has much steepness, ice, and deep snow.
