Skiing the Lake Road in and out was a blast as conditions are perfect in spite of the intense snowmobile traffic. Climbing to the Pyramid/Sawteeth col was an uphill but leisurely walk till the about 3200’ altitude point. There and then as the trail significantly steeped and the snow deepen the previous group of climbers has called it a day and gone home to rest! We quickly found out that Gothics would be for another day and scaled down our program. The snow was deep and heavy, at times particularly from the col to the summit we even had trouble following the trail even though it was Gary’s 8th and mine 5th winter visit of that mountain. It sure looked like nobody had been Sawteeth in weeks. Nevertheless it was wonderful to break trail in wonderland in comparatively balmy weather (15F) and constantly enjoy the spectacular views of Pyramid and Basin’s basin icy walls.
