parked to the right of whistle stop cafe at loon mt.. started on tar road behind hotel which shortly therafter turns to gravel. took the access road up to north peak which truns into ski trails. brookway, the link, grand junction, upper bear claw to sunset. at the north peak satrted down upper walking boss and found carin about 50 yds downhill on right. followed this old trail for about 15 minutes until trail takes a sharp left. from here, took a right and went south west for about a hundred yards to avoid thick spruce. after cresting ridge, could see scar and started approach to the south west side rather than directly to peak to avoid spruce. when i got lucky, would find pieces of herd path here and there. at about 3400 feet, there is a small platue, and things got a little better with more herd paths. on the way out, i must of missed every herd bath. made it back to bootleg trail, but had 3 pounds of spruce and fir needles down my back, in my pants, in my shoes, ears, and you name it. 8 miles, 3340 feet gain, 7.40hrs. this one was an adventure.
