Date hiked: Sunday, 1/13
Trail Conditions: Gave up on skiing the road to trailhead due to very thin cover- my Saturn might have made it to summer T.H. after all. Ward Brook Trail is in very bad shape. Started on horse trail and lost it at 2 miles or so. After an hour, bushwacked down to red trail, which was better marked but muddy and wet most of the way. Easiest part of hike was the very easy to follow herd path to Seymour. 2.5 hours RT.
Equipment: poles for negotiating water crossings and long stretches of wet mud; snowshoes with good bite for herd path or crampons- path is very hard.
Comments: too bad I forgot my camera. Incredible views of Sewards, Santanonis, Great Range. Breathtaking day. Perfect for a long hike- in just a t-shirt and vest all day, too!
